Hello, SFBA friends!
We’d like to add another volunteer to our moderation team, which currently stands at four people. We can comfortably handle the instance’s needs now, but we want to have extra capacity for those occasions when someone takes time off or unusual events increase the moderation load. Especially considering the coming US election, we want to be prepared.
Ideally, you’re a fairly active participant who knows how the main features of Mastodon work, though technical skills aren’t required. You’ll need to weigh evidence and/or ask for opinions before making decisions and explain policy violations in a respectful tone to community members.
We are a fun, cohesive team—we like working together and balance the load pretty flexibly. It’s a good way to give back to the community and keep it safe and welcoming for all members.
Some previous experience with moderation or managing group discussions is helpful. We would love to add more diverse perspectives to the team!
What SFBA moderators do:
- Investigate reports and take appropriate action
- Monitor new account signups to weed out spammers
- Skim the local timeline for potential issues
- Give input on policy, events, and future services
- Other projects according to your interests and talents
We have a chat channel for anytime you want a second opinion, have questions, or see something that might need to be looked at.
Time commitment:
- A few hours per week on your own schedule
- Team meeting about once a month
Please send a private message to the moderators (@moderators@sfba.social) if you are interested or have questions for us!
